What is UV Purification?

UV disinfection has been used for many years in water purification.  It has proven effective in deactivating microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and algae.  The air we breathe in our homes and work places also contain similar contaminates.  Plus the paints, cleaning supplies and furnishing we all use release gases that can affect our health.  The American Medical Association estimates that 50% of all illness is caused or aggravated by polluted indoor air.  UV light air purifiers have proven effective in controlling air borne microbial pollutants.

A specific range of ultraviolet light, known as UV-C, has been proven to reduce and even eliminate common indoor pollutants.  The UV rays strike the contaminants directly and penetrate the microorganisms and break down its molecular bonds; destroying its ability to reproduce.  The microorganism is thus rendered harmless.  In most cases UV disinfection works within seconds and does not require the use of chemicals.

A Recent Study...

A study was done in operating rooms over a 19 year period (July 1986 to July 2005) to test the effect of UV disinfection.  In September 1991, UV lighting was installed in the operating rooms.  The results?  Of 5,980 joint replacement surgeries performed by one surgeon, forty-seven resulted in infection.  The rate of infection before the UV lighting was 1.77% versus 0.57% with UV lighting.  So your odds of infection without UV lighting were 3.1 times greater than with it.

What about you and me?

How can we enjoy fresh, clean air in our homes?  If you have a forced air heating and/or cooling system in you home, it may already have a filter installed.  These filters are efUv air purifierfective in eliminating dust and other large particles from the air.  But smaller particles, such as bacteria, mold spores, and viruses still continue to circulate throughout your home, and even can multiply in these ventilation systems.  The solution?  UV bulbs can be installed inside the forced air system, thus destroying an average of 98% of microorganisms in the air.  The units  are easy to install.  You’ll likely be able to do it yourself in as few as 15 minutes.  Or your local handyman could be called to help. Units are sized for homes and businisses  up to 10,000 square feet!
